Some people say The Wedding Guys live, eat, and sleep weddings, and if you look at their schedules, you would probably agree. They love what they do and take pride in sharing ideas and assisting couples during a special and unique time in their lives.
They are passionate about the wedding industry and the joy a wedding celebration brings. It’s this same passion that drives The Wedding Guys to devote their own personal time to charity. From meeting one-on-one with couples over dinner, to answering questions or giving creative insight, to actually planning an entire wedding reminiscent of the Great Gatsby era, their donations have raised thousands of dollars for local charities.
Last year, The Wedding Guys introduced three one-of-a-kind events. The “Love Is A Cure Breast Cancer Benefit” features a silent auction of wedding items donated by industry experts. “The Engagement Party,” held in November and February, focuses on engaged couples and features interesting seminars throughout the day. The Wedding Guys host this event so couples can meet the most prominent wedding experts of Twin City Bridal Association. Their goal is to help you make a personal connection and select experts who best visualize your wedding day. Their yearly “Trend Wedding” has become the most celebrated wedding give-away in the area. One lucky couple will win a one-of-a-kind wedding designed by The Wedding Guys—a dream wedding featured in the local media.
The media is abuzz with celebrity nuptials. From what ‘she’ is wearing, to getting exclusive access to behind-closed-doors ceremonies and glamorous wedding day photos, the public is fascinated by these extravagant affairs. You watch celebrity weddings on TV and wonder, “What would it be like to have a lavish wedding like that?” For one lucky couple, the celebrity-style wedding recently became reality.
When Twin City Bridal Association, in celebration of its 20th Anniversary, partnered to produce the biggest wedding give-away in the history of the Twin Cities, over 3,000 couples registered to win “Trend Wedding 2006.” This red-carpet event, themed as a “Celebrity-Style Wedding,” was valued at nearly $200,000.
When Chalayne Bertrand and Dirk Palmgren registered for the wedding, they never imagined they would actually win. Their luck changed when their names were drawn at “The Engagement Party” held last February in the Grand Ballroom of The Minneapolis Convention Center. “The Engagement Party” was hosted by Twin City Bridal Association’s very own Wedding Guys,™ Matthew Trettel and Bruce Vassar.
The Wedding Guys, known best as the design team for The Wedding Fair™, Twin City Bridal Association’s Minneapolis-based wedding event, planned the entire Trend Wedding 2006. The recipe for the “Celebrity Style Wedding” according to The Wedding Guys, was to push wedding trends ahead in the Twin Cities, make the wedding an all-inclusive event for the couple’s family and friends, add flair and personal elements unique to Chalayne and Dirk, stir in just a touch of drama, and add a hint of a surprise to make it all sizzle!
In planning, The Wedding Guys partnered with the Twin Cities’ most prominent wedding experts to design a one-of-a-kind, over the top, celebrity-style wedding. From the Birnbaum and Bullock couture gown from Amy Jane Bridal; to the ceremony at the Graves 601 Hotel; from the 4,000-square-foot tented reception site at a private estate on Lake Minnetonka, complete with glamorous décor elements such as specialty linens, lighting, china and crystal from Aprés Party & Tent Rental; to the amazing floral centerpieces by Stems and Vines, the wedding would rival most celebrity couples.
The reception would boast a customized menu prepared on-site by the culinary team at Prom Catering, and guests would be entertained by a mixture of the Bellagala Big Band and their DJs playing R&B and today’s top hits. The wedding was sure to be exciting, different, and above all—fabulous. The theme of the wedding focused on the latest trend colors, flawlessly executed in true celebrity style.
Within a week of winning this all-inclusive wedding, Chalayne was whisked away for her gown selection at Amy Jane Bridal in the Cathedral Hill area of St. Paul. The Wedding Guys arrived at Chalayne’s home in a chauffeured limo, courtesy of Star Limousine, complete with champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Chalayne’s mother, Judy; sister, Chantel; and niece, Leah, came along for the occasion. The entourage had a private appointment at Amy Jane Bridal with a selection of stunning Birnbaum and Bullock gowns. After trying on several gowns and adding accessories, the big decision was made and the dress was ordered. Generally a couture gown takes several months to create, but Birnbaum and Bullock of New York City were ready for The Wedding Guys’ challenge—a couture gown ASAP. Within a week, Chalayne’s custom gown was ready!
Crazy Daisy Design provided another quick turn-around with invitations custom-designed and printed in just a few weeks. The design concept played off the décor for the reception, with bright colors of chartreuse, fuchsia, and orange in a multi-layered effect. The stripe motif from one of the linens was used as an accent, as was a squiggle design that complemented the overall look. Sara Doherty’s concept was a foldout invitation with stepped enclosure cards detailing “The Journey,” “The Ceremony,” the “RSVP” and “The Celebration.” All were tied with a fuchsia Dupioni silk ribbon that would match the sash of the bridesmaids’ dresses, and slipped into a pearlescent envelope with orange lining.
