Total Healthcare and Physical Medicine

Dr. Joshua Norine, Total Healthcare & Physical MedicineSometimes—despite a person’s best efforts to stay healthy—they’re thrown curve balls. Rather than living with debilitating pain, or becoming reliant on pain medication, specialty clinics such as Total Healthcare & Physical Medicine, PLLC exist to offer treatment without the use of any lasers, narcotics, acupuncture, pills, or surgery. Good candidates include anyone who experiences peripheral neuropathy in their feet, characterized by “numbness, burning, tingling, pins and needles, or sharp/shooting pains,” says Dr. Joshua Norine, owner of the clinic. The problem can start as a funny feeling in your toes, progressing with time to spread to feet, ankles, shins, calves, knees, and thighs.

On staff is Dr. Norine, Dr. Adam Locketz, the medical director of the clinic, a trained medical doctor specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a physician assistant with 37 years of experience, two physical therapists, and a medical assistant.

The 6-12 week program works for just about everyone, even diabetic patients, says Dr. Norine. Oftentimes Medicare with a secondary insurance company covers 100 percent of the cost. The treatment is safe, FDA-cleared, and highly effective. “There are up to 150 medical clinics in the country that offer this program,” says Dr. Norine. “We brought it here to Minnesota. We are the only clinic in the state to do this program full-time.”

In addition to reporting less pain, many patients commonly say they have less tingling, and a return of feeling to their feet, leading to an improvement in sleep, balance, and mobility.

According to one patient, “I was diagnosed with neuropathy five years ago. My feet hurt all the time, sometimes tingling, sometimes throbbing. Within weeks of starting treatment, I could feel a difference ... and now my pain level has decreased 90 percent.”

Patients also make appointments for the clinic’s osteoarthritis knee program (bone-on-bone and/or arthritis in the knees), back and neck pain, and shoulder conditions, but the main focus is on treating peripheral neuropathy.  “Everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their quality of life,” says Dr. Norine, whose own mother began struggling with neuropathy 24 years ago in 1990, inspiring his career path. “Most people that have peripheral neuropathy have lost hope. They have accepted that they are the unfortunate ones chosen to live with this condition, and so they modify their life and give up the things they love the most because of their declining health. Now they can try our program and potentially get their life back.”

Chu Vision Institute

Dr. Chu“Today, patients are unwilling to accept poor vision as a natural part of aging,” says Dr. Y. Ralph Chu, founder and medical director of Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center in Bloomington. Chu says, “They not only want a better visual outcome, but also less dependence on distance and reading glasses. And most people are unaware of just how many options now exist, and continue to evolve, to reduce the need for prescription eyeglasses. The Victus femtosecond laser technology was designed to meet this demand and delivers outstanding visual results and ultimate patient experience in cataract and LASIK procedures.”

Chu Vision Institute is among the first ten sites in the country, and the only site in the Midwest, to offer the Victus femtosecond laser. This innovative laser platform provides significantly improved accuracy, precision and reproducibility in performing some of the critical steps of cataract and LASIK surgery and is approved for both cataract and corneal flap procedures.

“With the Victus platform, we are able to automate some of the steps that we have commonly performed manually,” says Dr. Chu. The Victus platform offers real-time, three-dimensional imaging of the eye to aid in planning and monitoring the operation. “While we have performed thousands of successful LASIK and cataract surgeries, we feel this technology is essential to providing our patients with the best outcomes possible.”

Dr. Chu is a fellowship-trained corneal specialist in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery. He stays on the leading edge of technology through his participation in over 55 clinical evaluations or FDA clinical trials. Three of Dr. Chu’s current projects include working on the next generation glaucoma stent, helping patients reduce or eliminate their need for reading glasses with a corneal inlay and corneal cross-linking for patients with keratoconus or ectasia after refractive surgery.

Dr. Chu serves on numerous editorial boards and on the Board of Governors for the Children’s Theatre Company of MN and he has lectured around the world. At the end of the day, though, it is always about the patients he sees at his Bloomington clinic.

“It’s important to all of us at Chu Vision Institute and Chu Surgery Center that our patients not only have access to the latest technologies but that we provide the education necessary so each of our patients can make an informed decision regarding their eyecare,” says this dedicated eye surgeon. Dr. Chu concludes, “We provide the knowledge, expertise, and options tailored to individual lifestyles to reduce the need for reading glasses and to help improve vision at all distances. We are dedicated to improving the vision of our patients so that they can positively transform their lives.”

Minnesota Disc Institute

Dr. AntoineDr. Jamy Antoine’s patients often seek him out after trying—without success—traditional therapy and treatment for bulging, herniated, or degenerative discs in the neck and lower back. Many have tried adjustments, epidural injections, steroid shots, acupuncture, muscle relaxers, massage, icing, and special stretches, with no long-term relief. They are tired of not being able to sit, stand, or walk without noticing pain or numbness. They want to feel “normal” again, while avoiding surgery if possible.

Dr. Antoine has been in practice for over 11 years, consulting with thousands of patients from around the country.

He listens carefully, sympathizes (several years ago, before he switched gears in his practice—he sought relief for his own severe neck pain, due to six bulging/herniated discs in his neck—with little to no relief), and then educates his patients so they can take control of their health.

“As research shows, the discs in the body can heal, if given the right tools,” he explains.

As a non-surgical disc specialist at the Minnesota Disc Institute, the sole facility in Minnesota providing the advanced, effective, gentle, and safe non-surgical Disc Oscillation Therapy™ for the treatment of damaged discs in the neck or low back, sciatic pain, and numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, legs, or feet, he is fully invested in helping his patients get back to feeling normal again, without drugs, without injections, and without surgery, therapies that often just “mask the pain.”

When the discs are allowed to heal and repair, he says, many patients will gain more long-term pain-free years than they will in the short-term by having surgery. (Although he is quick to point out that there is a time and a place for surgery, too.)

The Disc Oscillation Therapy Program™ works because it gets to the real problem that other treatments miss or fail to address. It creates a new possibility, thinking outside the “standard of care” box.

“We don’t offer just another form of  physical therapy, traditional chiropractic care, or medications and/or shots designed just for pain management” he says,” he says. “Our program is a trademarked disc-care program, using state-of-the-art equipment and patented technology specifically designed to help the disc heal and repair.”

The non-surgical procedure results in a lasting solution without side effects or recovery time, is pain-free, and has an over 95 percent success rate for qualified candidates. It worked for Dr. Antoine’s neck pain, helping him to avoid spinal surgery.  “I’m pain-free today,” Dr. Antoine says.  “And the chances of me having surgery for my past disc problems are non-existent.”

His patients speak highly of their results.

As one patient said, “When I came in, my pain level was at a 10. I could barely walk. After just a few sessions the pain has dropped, I’m more mobile, and things are looking a lot better. I’m so grateful to have found the Minnesota Disc Institute.”
