I Like You

It’s hard not to like I Like You. The floor is blanketed in a lush, grass-like carpet, and a single wooden swing, plucked from a playground, hangs in the center of the shop. The surreal setting is perfect for the sometimes strange, always whimsical wares on display at the new northeast Minneapolis store, where owners Sarah Sweet and Angela Lessman showcase the works of local and independent artisans—more than 60 of them. There’s loads of funky jewelry, affordable art, clever greeting cards (displayed in a killer, classic card catalog), expensive-smelling natural soaps, and T-shirts embellished with sock monkeys. Some shoppers might recall the original I Like You, which Sweet and Lessman opened two years ago in a little yellow cottage in the Kingfield neighborhood. At the new location, a spacious rehabbed warehouse, they now have room for more merchandise, a children’s play area, and craft classes taught by local artisans. What’s not to like?
