Sue Z.’s Finds

Sue Z.’s Finds

The farmers’ markets are bursting with fresh-picked veggies, fruit, baked goods, and more. Of the must-try items are Zoanne Hagberg’s banana breads at the downtown Minneapolis market (9 a.m.–6 p.m., Thursdays, Nicollet Mall). Hagberg offers six flavors of bread under the moniker Zoe’s Gone Bananas, including original, cherry chippy, skippy chippy, and nutty blondie.

At the Maple Grove market (3 p.m.–7 p.m., Thursdays, 12951 Weaver Lake Rd., Maple Grove), you’ll find Fields of Grain organic and gluten-free flours, mixes, and cookies; Three Rivers maple syrup; and Red Rover Brick Oven ready-to-eat pizza.

No need to fire up the grill for your summer patio parties: just get some wings from :D-SPOT (705 Century Ave. N., Maplewood, 651-730-7768; 1993 Burns Ave., St. Paul, 651-738-8300; eatatdspot.com). Chef/owner Darin Koch offers more than 250 savory and sweet chicken wings and 15 burgers.

Sue Zelickson is the founder and director of Women Who Really Cook and Perspectives Family Center’s Kids Cafe. She is the former host of WCCO Radio’s Food for Thought.
