June 2010 Letters to the Editor

Letters from readers regarding the last issues of Minnesota Monthly

Right On

The April 2010 issue was stellar! The article about the new Target Field, “Field of Dreams,” brought back memories of my youth watching games at the old Met, and “Best Places to Live” in the Twin Cities was right on to include Excelsior. I grew up just a few miles from there and always considered it to be sort of my hometown. Thanks for pointing out why.

Out-State Top Doc

I’m incredibly disappointed that for your choices for “Best Doctors for Women” (May) you chose to poll only six counties in Minnesota—as if Minnesota is represented only by those within an hour’s drive of the Twin Cities. As a Minnesota magazine, you shouldn’t need to hear this, but here it is: Minnesota is more than just the Twin Cities! Really. And Minnesota has one of the best gynecologists in the nation, Dr. Michael Bass, OB/GYN, located in Thief River Falls. When I lived in the Twin Cities, I drove six hours to Thief River Falls just to see him. He was recognized as one of America’s top gynecologists in 2005 and 2007 by the Consumer Research Council of America, served as a medical ambassador in obstetrics and gynecology to China and Mongolia in 2007, and is the reason I have two beautiful children today, despite facing endometriosis and infertility. He has a genuine care and compassion for his patients and always takes time to listen and explain things. Leaving him off the list does a major disservice to women all over northern Minnesota who owe their lives and their families to this remarkable doctor.

Corrections

In our listing of the “Best Doctors for Women” (May), we misspelled the last names of Michelle A. Bussmann, Dermatology Specialists in Edina, and Ronald W. Glinski, Metro Urology in Maplewood. We also indicated that Daniel T. Chow is with Fairview Diamond Women’s Center. The center is not affiliated with Fairview.
