Steve Kang, owner of the new St. Paul men’s shop BlackBlue, oozes coolness. Often dressed in dark-wash jeans, a gray woolen scarf, and thick, black-rimmed glasses, he’s the ultimate hipster. But take a closer look at his store’s stock and you’ll find the same brands your grandpa used to wear: Woolrich, Pendleton, and Filson. Synonymous with sturdiness and scratchy wool, these timeless lines now feature slimmer silhouettes and softer fabrics for a sexy, rugged appeal. Marching along the wall are pairs of Tretorns and Minnetonka Moccasins—modern styles with a timeless air. BlackBlue’s space is equally classic, but contemporary. Airy, open, and stark white, it’s accented with antiques, including an old farm table, a faded oriental rug, and a wooden ironing board (behind which peeks a vintage photo of John Wayne in full cowboy gear). It feels at once like an art gallery and a 1930s Yale dorm room—a place where anyone can shop, even if you’re not cool.

Geri Wolf, the Cities’ most sought-after party pro has teamed up with caterers, florists, and venues to create a destination where hosts-to-be can sift from thousands of gorgeous images to create “vision boards” for their next soiree—then connect with the vendors who can help execute it. The service is free, and no appointment is necessary. We’ll toast to that. Gaviidae Common, 612-825-4705, stylelaboratory.com
