Minnesota Twins players and the University of Minnesota team up to improve research

Event: The 2012 Diamond Awards, held January 26 at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.

Cause: More than 500 guests, including many former and current Twins players, attended the event to help raise money for the University of Minnesota’s research on brain, nerve, and muscle disorders.

Batter Up: Speakers included former Twins first baseman Kent Hrbek and Twins owner Jim Pohlad. Fox Sports’s Dick Bremer emceed the night.

Winning Big: Auction items included a painting of Target Field signed by Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Terrence Fogarty, and Ron Gardenhire; tickets to the World Series; and Champions Club tickets to a Twins game.

Honors: It was announced that former Twins manager Tom Kelly’s number (10) would be retired in September.
