METHODOLOGY
In December, we sent postcards to more than 10,000 doctors in the seven-county metro area and Olmstead County. Respondents were asked to log onto a secure online polling site and name up to three doctors in each specialty, based on the criteria they would use to make recommendations to female family members, friends, and loved ones. We asked them to list doctors, either male or female, who were attuned to the specific needs of female patients (the instructions stated we were not looking for only female doctors). More than 1,000 doctors were named, and exactly 238 of those nominees received enough votes to meet the threshold established by our staff. The list of specialties is not comprehensive. Instead, the survey sought to highlight specialties that are often of interest to women.
