Birthday Bash

89.3 The Current celebrates its seventh birthday with lots of Minnesota music

Event:  89.3 The Current, Minnesota Public Radio’s non-commercial, member-supported rock radio station, celebrated its seventh birthday with a two-night party at downtown Minneapolis’s First Avenue on January 27 and 28.

Play List: Both shows sold out, with 1,400 music lovers packing First Avenue each night.

Local Talent: All the bands—Night Moves, Low, Dead Man Winter, Tapes ’N Tapes, Haley Bonar, Sims, Suicide Commandos, Poliça—hailed from Minnesota.

Who’s Who: Among the fans and many musicians in attendance were St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and chamber-pop/alternative rocker Jeremy Messersmith.

We Love Prince: Tapes ’N Tapes and Low’s Alan Sparhawk closed Friday night’s set with a rendition of “Purple Rain.”
