Champagne Taste, Beer Budget

Dear Expert: I dream about having a home that looks like those I see in magazines, but I know I could never afford it.  How do I create a home that I love on a “normal” budget?

A. We always tell our clients “You get what you pay for, but you can find a great deal.” We offer designer quality pieces at 50-80% off retail prices. That way, you can buy high-end items for a fraction of their regular cost—plus, the pieces you find are likely to be more unique. When you buy high-quality pieces not only do they last longer, but you also get more enjoyment from living with them everyday. But before you start shopping, it’s important to decide on a plan and a budget. Buy the right piece for your space at the best quality for your budget. This will prevent you from wasting money on throw-away pieces that you will need to replace again. Take your time, consider hiring an interior designer to help create your plan and vision, purchase thoughtfully, and most of all enjoy creating your space!

Expert Note: “Spend your budget on the items you will have for the longest period of time. Save your money on trendy accessories or color schemes that you will tire of quickly.”
