Scouring the land, brothers Jacob and Wilhelm—better known as the brothers Grimm—collect stories. Follow them as the weave their way through wolves and witches, revisiting six of their tales, such as Cinderella and The Frog Prince. But these accounts won’t be read on finely printed parchment. Instead, you’ll see contortionists build the gingerbread house Hansel and Gretel unsuspectingly enter and Rapunzel letting down her golden hair from the high wire.
Welcome to Circus Juventas’ summer show, GRIMM: Happily Ever After, where the school’s top 75 performers (all under 21) unleash their skills after almost 11 months of preparation. One of St. Paul’s hidden gems, Circus Juventas is the largest youth circus school in North America, and their performances are reminiscent of the ever-popular Cirque de Soleil.
Starting with a mere 30 students some 15 years ago, the school has grown to over 800 students today. They’ve amassed a dedicated group of followers along the way, resulting in sold-out performances each summer and bumping ticket sales up near 20,000. This year marks their 17th summer show, complete with the German wheel, silks acts, and the Russian swing.
It’s time to rekindle your childhood fantasy of jumping on a train and joining the circus, as you journey into the big top, and consequently into the world of those who choose to make the leap. Get ready for a magical adventure as the Grimm brothers show you their stories in a way you’ve never seen them before.
