Comic Art at Altered Esthetics

Altered Esthetics’ current show proves that comic art has a place outside the newspaper, too.

Comic artists do more than fill up the funny pages, something the Twin Cities has long understood and embraced. At the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, there’s a class specifically for comic artists (one of only a few in the nation). The national Cartoonist Conspiracy has a strong following in Minneapolis and St. Paul. And now Altered Esthetics has hopped aboard the comic-art rush with their latest exhibition, “Just Add Ink: A Comic Cookbook.” Co-sponsored by Big Time Attic and the Cartoonist Conspiracy, the show opened a couple weeks ago and has inspired viewers—comic artists and fans alike—with the original pieces, untouched and full of character, mistakes, and personality. Come see for yourself how moving comics can be outside the Variety section.
