Event: Midwest Tomato Fest was held Saturday, July 13, in downtown Minneapolis.
Cause: The festival, which is modeled after La Tomatina in Buñol, Spain, benefits the Minnesota Internship Center and Save Our Schools, programs aimed toward helping children from low-income families. Participants throw tomatoes deemed inedible by grocery stores and restaurants.
The Agenda: Local bands played from 2 p.m. until the food fight began four hours later. After 90 minutes of throwing, tomato-covered participants made their way to a giant washing station to clean up before rocking out for another hour.
Entertainment: The White Keys kicked off the festivities, followed by the BluPrint Band and DJ Zeke Thomas. The beer garden served local brews from Grain Belt and Schell’s.
