About 200 guests celebrated spring and generously supported the work of the Freshwater Society at an Ice Out/Loon In party and fundraiser on April 21. The event at the Bayview Event Center in Excelsior was keyed to two sure signs of spring: Ice-out on Lake Minnetonka and the stop-over on the lake of migrating loons. The Freshwater Society, based in Excelsior, educates and inspires people to value, conserve and protect water resources. The party featured a raffle, a huge silent auction and an activity most fund-raisers never offer: a loon-calling contest.
