They look like Muppets. They move like Muppets. So those must be Muppets in Avenue Q, the Tony Award–winning musical that’s coming to the Orpheum Theatre April 13 to 18?
Not really. Nor are they aimed at children, per two cheeky caveats that accompany any self-generated promotion of the show: “Due to adult situations (like full-puppet nudity), Avenue Q may be inappropriate for kids under 13. Avenue Q has not been authorized or approved by the Jim Henson Company or Sesame Workshop, which have no responsibility for its content.”
Billboards for the show, including one across the street from the I Like You store in Northeast Minneapolis, also feature the warning to not bring kids. Of course, it’s as much advertising as it is responsible—because aren’t you intrigued about what exactly full-puppet nudity could be?
