Dr. Diana Lawson, dean of the G.R. Herberger College of Business
We live in a big world that is getting smaller and more competitive with the advent of the Internet and personal communications. If a business student is going to be successful, they need to view the world as a dynamic and ever-changing marketplace.
Dr. Diana Lawson, dean of the G.R. Herberger College of Business at St. Cloud State University, understands this marketplace and stresses the importance of a global mindset. As an AACSB-International accredited university for over 30 years, St. Cloud State prepares students for the global environment through a strong curriculum, accomplished faculty, strong alumni network, internship possibilities, and opportunities for valuable international experiences.
AACSB-International is the hallmark of business schools. “The G.R. Herberger College of Business provides strong learning experiences that prepare students for the global environment,†Dr. Lawson maintains.
The majority of Dr. Lawson’s academic career has had an international focus: from developing an international business curriculum to teaching business in foreign countries, Dr. Lawson has walked the talk. Prior to coming to the Herberger College of Business she held the position of Endowed Chair in International Business at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan. Dr. Lawson has taught in Turkey and Moldova and teaches international negotiation in France.
The draw of strong programs, dedicated faculty, and an international focus brought Diana Lawson to St. Cloud State University. She saw the potential for growth and for making a great school even better.
“Cross-cultural knowledge and understanding, a long-term view, listening with an open mind, and understanding the importance and necessity for change†are her keys to success.
“Be willing to take risks and take advantage of opportunities that will help you gain the skills needed for the next step in your path,†she says.
This is the philosophy she shares with students at St. Cloud State’s Herberger College of Business.
