The Heart and Stroke Gala raises hope and money for children with heart disease

Event: The 17th annual American Heart Association Heart and Stroke Gala was held at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, December 10.

Cause: The $800,000 raised goes toward AHA’s programs aimed at preventing heart disease and strokes in children, as well as curbing the childhood obesity epidemic.

Going Once, Going Twice: The highest bid from the silent and live auctions went toward a five-night trip to Aspen. The winning amount was $13,000.

Star Appeal: FOX 9 anchor Tom Butler and meteorologist Keith Marler emceed the night, which drew 650 guests. Bobby Z, the drummer for Prince & The Revolution, shared his story of surviving a near-fatal heart attack last February. Also in attendance was his brother, Stephen Rivkin, the 2010 Academy Award-nominated editor for Avatar.
