The Twin Cities is finally starting to thaw out after a particularly harsh winter, and I am so ready to celebrate spring. (Is it here yet? Is it here yet?) I think an encaustic artwork from local company Ceci Cela is just the prescription for my spring fever. Made right in northeast Minneapolis by sisters Lori Henson and Terri Johnson with help from dear old dad, Jim Henson, the little board-backed artworks feature owls, trillium, songbirds, and calligraphy swoops, all in oh-so-seasonal pinks, blues, and spring greens. The sisters take original or decoupaged images and then paint over them with molten wax, giving them permanency and a lustrous enamel appearance. I can see one of these as a lovely wall accent in a bathroom, or maybe a triptych over a glossy white dresser. Pick one up for $50 through etsy, or they’re also available at Patina, Mitrebox, Corazon, and Gallery 360.
