Event: The 13th annual Book Lover’s Ball was held Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Open Book in downtown Minneapolis.
Cause: To show their support for and love of literature, 225 people came to the ball and donated $60,000 to help fund Milkweed Editions. The mission of the nonprofit publishing house, located in downtown Minneapolis, is to identify, nurture, and publish transformative literature, and build an engaged community around it.
Penning Pages and Taking Stages: The night’s main speaker was David Rhodes, the best-selling Wisconsin author of Driftless. The event also included a bilingual poetry reading (Portuguese and English) by authors Salgado Maranhao and Alexis Levitin from their poetry collection, Blood of the Sun.
