If we sell our home in 5 years will we get our money we spent remodeling our kitchen back?

Dear Expert: If we sell our home in 5 years will we get our money we spent remodeling our kitchen back?

In today’s market it’s hard to say what will happen in 5 years, but today the average recoup for your kitchen remodel investment is 53%.  If your goal is to recoup all your investment in a kitchen remodel, you will need to make wise decisions on what has a value to the new buyer.  For instance, if you love to cook and want an $8,000 Wolf range, will the new buyer feel the same about that range to pay the extra money?  On the other hand, you have to use that range and enjoy cooking on that range for the five years. My word of advice if you want to recoup your investment-stay middle of the road in price with safe colors and styles.  If your time frame is more like 5-10 years, you have more time to enjoy your new kitchen so you should get what you want and can afford.  In 10+ years the next buyer will probably remodel when they move in.  The times of buyers wanting to fix up the house is over, today’s buyer wants the kitchen to be ready to move in.
