Julia Child’s 100th Birthday Celebration

Event: Julia Child’s 100th birthday was celebrated on October 4, 2012 at the Minnesota Roth Distributing showroom.

Sweet Treats: Guests enjoyed seven conversation stations to meet some of the top female chefs in Minnesota, sample delectable food bites, sip delicious wines, and learn how the chefs were inspired by Julia Child. Patisserie Margo provided live demonstrations of tarte tatin and focaccia throughout the evening in the showroom. The focaccia recipe was straight from the Baking with Julia cookbook. In the Culinary Center, Chef Marianne Miller of Saga Hill Cooking and Events demonstrated, in true French fashion, how to make boeuf bourguignon, paired with a lovely Terra Burdigala causse rouge wine selected by Sommelier Leslee Miller of Amusee. The evening was complete with a visit from Julia Child herself from heaven. (Or maybe it was famous Julia Child impersonator Thomas Larson.)

Cause: All proceeds benefited females studying in the culinary arts field through grants from Les Dames d’Escoffier and Women Who Really Cook.

Going Once, Going Twice: Guests also had the opportunity to participate in a live auction packed with kitchen essentials and gift certificates to local restaurants and more.
