Dear Expert: How much can I expect to pay to remodel my kitchen?
A: That’s a hard question to give a straight answer because there are so many variables: How large is your kitchen? Are you moving any walls? Are you adding any windows or doors? Putting an addition on your home? What quality of materials are you interested in (cabinets, appliances, counter tops, lighting, plumbing fixtures, tile backsplash, flooring etc.)?
The Remodeling Magazine published a report about cost vs. value, and an average major kitchen remodel is estimated at $58,149 (200 square feet, gutting the space and adding new cabinets, countertops, appliances, flooring and the mechanicals); an upscale kitchen remodel is estimated at $113,027.
We have remodeled kitchens for under $58,000 and over $113,000. If you want a breakdown of investment, go to the Crystal Kitchen Center website www.crystalkitchen.com, click on the “Services” tab and scroll down to the “Budget Estimator” tab, once there either enter the value of your home or the budget you have in mind for your kitchen and it will give you breakout of the various categories for your project (cabinets, countertop, appliances and fixtures, labor and flooring). With this information, you can make educated decisions on the materials you choose in order to stay within your budget.
