Locally-Sourced Office Supplies

A big hello to all our Midwest Home/Home Dish readers! I’m Lila, the new editorial intern on staff here at Midwest Home magazine. You’ll be seeing my posts on Home Dish a couple times a week, and I’ll be doing some writing for the magazine as well.

My first day at MH brought me a cubicle to call my own, so I’ve spent the past few weeks daydreaming of lovely office supplies and décor to spruce it up. Luckily the Twin Cities provide a whole slew of great design within biking distance, so I can easily whittle my paychecks down to nothing. Here are a few of my favorite finds:

Russell and Hazel is a local mecca for those of us who waited anxiously for school supply shopping each year—picture all the glory of Staples, but way, way chicer. I spotted an acrylic riser, $40, perfect for stashing the heaps of back issues currently piled on my desk.

The people + places set, $56, is an updated version of your old Rolodex. We have to keep track of sources for fact checking and such, and my current system of find-the-tiny-post-it-with-the-scribbled-address doesn’t seem to be working…perhaps this colorful alternative is the solution?

As a hoarder of paper goods, I know I don’t technically need any more notebooks…but why mess around with technicalities when this spiral-bound beauty, $18, is calling my name?

I’ve rekindled my debilitating caffeine addiction in recent years, so naturally I need to stock up on cheery mugs—this one from Marimekko, available at FinnStyle, is just what I’m looking for!

True story: I’ve inadvertently unplugged my computer twice three times today. With my feet. Perhaps these Leaf Keepers Ties from Patina, $7.95, will help wrangle the jungle of cables under my desk…

And the Jonathan Adler Havana reading lamp, available at ID inside design, would surely make my little cubicle feel like home!

Sadly, my meager budget probably means I’ll have to wait for the corner office for my workspace redesign. What about you, readers? Any nifty office products we should know about? Leave a comment and let us know what you’ve been daydreaming about lately.
