Luxury Home Tour Spotlight: Denali Custom Homes

This self-guided tour runs three weekends in June: June 6-8, 13-15, and 20-22 and showcases the work of the area’s most sought-after custom builders. The tour is perfect for those who admires architecture and fine craftmanship, those with champagne wishes and caviar dreams, those who are looking for unique ideas to incorporate into their own home, and those interested in hiring a custom builder to create their very own dream home.

Every week through the end of the tour, we will feature one or more of the 14 luxury homes on this blog, so be sure to check back for the full lineup.

Home #3

2246 Portico Green, Wayzata, MN 55391

As an award-winning luxury home builder, David Bieker of Denali Custom Homes, Inc. knows how to build homes to best fit into their environments, whether that environment is a sprawling expanse of land, a lakefront property, or—in this case—a narrow corner lot backing up to an association-maintained green space in the Portico neighborhood of Wayzata.

With three small children, the homeowners were drawn to the family-friendly neighborhood and the large open park space behind the home, serving as the neighborhood playground. Their dream home is everything they wanted: beautiful custom details, free-flowing indoor spaces, and a highly functional—and nontraditional—layout, making the most of the useable space.

Influenced by East Coast design, features include all white enameled woodwork, a quiet office off the foyer (serving as a shared working space for both homeowners), 15-foot ceilings and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the great room, a gourmet kitchen with a center island and high-end appliances, a pass-through butler’s pantry to the formal dining area, and a generous deck off the kitchen.

At one end of the upstairs hall, there’s a laundry room and opulent master suite with an oversized shower and soaking tub; the other wing is reserved for the kids’ bedrooms and private bathrooms.

The lower level was designed for entertainment, with a built-in bar, pool table, partial stone wall serving as a backdrop for the family’s large flat-screen TV, exercise room, guest room with bath, and secret “mouse hole” crawl space beneath the stairs, a cozy place for the kids to play on cold or rainy days. • 952-476-2679

The 14 homes are located throughout the metro area. Single-tickets can be purchased at the homes for $5. Passports can be purchased for $25 at Caribou Coffee. For more information about the Midwest Home Luxury Home Tour, visit
