THE SCOOP Suzetra at 50th & France
West St. Paul native Susie Peterson was living in Arizona not long ago, dreaming of owning a women’s boutique. Wrong place, wrong time. So she moved back to the tundra to give it a go. The result? Suzetra at 50th & France—not a bad first-venture location. She’s cobbled together casual and business looks with special-occasion dresses (she takes a shine to Samuel Dong in particular). She’s also one of the only boutiques in town to carry cult-favorite Fidelity denim at two price points—“One for mom, one for daughter,” she explains. Now that’s a diversified business portfolio. 3825 W. 50th St., Edina, 612-208-0839, suzetra.com
At the Root
Root has a new offshoot, opening in Minneapolis’s Linden Hills. Ever since Jim Koktavy left Spalon Montage and opened Root, his slick Selby Avenue salon in St. Paul has grown steadily. Forgoing what he calls “sexier shticks,” he hires recent grads and trains them himself, to his “rigid” standards. And the clients follow. The new Minneapolis location will have its own staff and has jettisoned any skin-care or nail-care services, but expect the same top-notch cutting and coloring, Kerastase and Shu Uemura lines, and popular styling classes, which are open to the public. 4289 Sheridan Ave. S., Mpls., 612-886-1100, rootsalons.com
High Brow
Two beauty studios specialize in arch looks
Your eyebrows frame your face, and great brow grooming can practically give you a scalpel-free face lift. Two new spots in town will help you make the most of your brows: one is Brow Chic, at Selby and Snelling in St. Paul. There, Kae Kozlowski does brow tweaks, false lashes, tints, waxes, and airbrush makeup. The second place is Burnsville’s new Brow Bella. Run by Krystal Dunn, it offers threading, waxing, facials, lash perms and extensions, spray tanning, and airbrush makeup. browchic.com; browbella.com
