Local custom builder Nor-Son, Inc. was recently honored by Minnesota Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) with prestigious Pyramid Awards for outstanding achievement and quality workmanship in the categories of “Residential Single Family, $1-5 million” for their beautiful Summer Kitchen project; and “Healthcare – $1-5 million” for The Garden House at St. Mary’s. The winning projects (shown below) were selected from entries submitted from across the state and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and budget.
Nor-Son successfully cast a vision rich with family tradition in the design and construction of the Summer Kitchen. Designed exclusively for entertaining through the summer months, large exterior cedar and glass bi-fold doors provide easy access to lakeside activities, while power phantom screens drop to create a porch-like environment. A blend of cedar shakes and stone with hand-hewn, reclaimed oak timber accents maintain an aged appearance. The 1,825-square-foot structure is complete with kitchen, dining, living room and bar area and surrounding a full masonry stone, double-sidedfireplace.
Nor-Son utilized its residential and healthcare expertise to design and build a 13,000-square-foot memory care house for those sufferingfrom Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia, working closely with the Living Services Foundation and Benedictine Health System. The St. Mary’s Garden House provides a home-like environment, divided into two parts or households, housing up to 10 residents each.
