Five times a year, the Minnesota Opera brings together world-class artists to create spectacular productions on the Ordway stage. This opera season opens this month with a rich and vibrant production of The Pearl Fishers, designed by British fashion icon Zandra Rhodes, which brings together international opera stars and Zenon Dance Company to tell the story of a love triangle in exotic Ceylon. In November, a new production of Casanova’s Homecoming by Minnesota’s own Dominick Argento lights up the Ordway stage 25 years after its commission; the heartwarming and hilarious tale about the legendary lover’s later years also celebrates Artistic Director Dale Johnson’s 25th anniversary. January launches Donizetti’s Tudor Trilogy with Roberto Devereux, a gorgeous period drama about Queen Elizabeth I and her treacherous young lover; March reunites James Valenti and Ellie Dehn after their blockbuster Romeo and Juliet to lead one cast of La boheme, the love story that inspired Rent, and the season closes in April with the scintillating Salome, starring Mlada Khudoley returning after her much-lauded debut in Il trovatore last season.
