I have a bit of a rug obsession. So trust me when I tell you that, when it comes to rugs, Richard Rehl is the master. The owner of Aubry Angelo can find or design just about any magic carpet you can imagine. He showed me a few of his recent finds at his IMS showroom the other day, and they are some of the most unique rugs I’ve ever seen.
The Turkish runner ($5,000), hanging on the wall, is the showstopper. The piece is made of goat hair and hemp rewoven from old kilims. Rehl also sells antique wool-felt rugs ($8,000 to $12,000, depending on size and age), hand-pounded by Iranian nomads, that feature dramatic primitive designs. Coming soon: Rehl’s custom designs of hand-woven cotton by Guatemalan artisans. Aubry Angelo sells to the trade only and is located in International Market Square, Suite 427, 275 Market Street, Minneapolis.
