Sample Night Live

Head to the History Theater for music, laughs, theater, and whatever else the performers decide to throw your way

Amy hates comedy. Mark hates jazz. It’s a Wednesday night and you’re itching to go out, but between you and Mark and Amy, a compromise won’t be made anytime soon. But fear not—Sample Night Live provides a solution!

So here’s the deal: buy a ticket and head to the History Theater. What follows is a taste test of 10 different acts, none of which will have you regretfully looking at your watch realizing you’re only 30 minutes into what will be a boring two hours. From the pop tunes and jazzy notes of The Smarts, to a kid’s only production of Little Shop of Horrors, pick your favorites and join their mailing list. You’ll even have a shot at winning tickets to the Ordway or the Guthrie.

But what about the kids (as if Mark and Amy weren’t hard enough to please)? Rascals under 12 can slip in for free, and the quick changes throughout the performances should hold their little attention spans; at least until 7 p.m. Then, it’s ta-ta to the wee ones for  round two at 8:15 p.m., during which anything could happen. All we know is there will be jazz, comedy, and music—oh yes, and your host Lounge-asaurus Rex, a crazy throwback to the seventies, moustache and all.
