Another cool product I spotted at the Green Expo is made for those of us who’d rather be digging our toes into warm sand than shoveling snow. It’s called Vacation, and promises to be darn hardy for maintaining your indoor flora while you escape winter. Just water houseplants with Vacation-laced water, and they’ll be perfectly happy for more than two weeks without additional watering. This stuff prevents plants from losing moisture through transpiration—i.e., plants more or less hold their breath until you return from the Caribbean and resume normal watering again. It’s all natural and can be used on any plant—ornamental, vegetable, and herbs. Sells for about $14.95 for 8 oz. (you mix it with water).
