Seeing Red at the Uptown Art Fair

This year’s Uptown Art Fair will be going red thanks to a special partnership between the Uptown Art Fair’s 2007 commemorative print artist John Petrey, the Uptown Art Fair, and the American Heart Association.

Petrey will create a special piece for the Twin Cities Go Red For Women campaign, to be unveiled during the Uptown Art Fair Aug. 3-5. The artwork he’s creating for the American Heart Association–a red dress–will fit right in with his “Dress Series” 3D Mixed Media Sculptures.

“I get a lot of requests from various groups [to help with various causes],” explains Petrey, who currently lives in Florida with his wife, Peggy. “I’ve chosen this project because of the national attention of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement. You can’t work with everyone, so I’ve decided to work with one of the best!”

The American Heart Association is equally thrilled to be partnering with such a talented artist at such a popular, well-known art fair.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase Go Red For Women creatively in a way that will really touch people,” says Barbara Ducharme, marketing director for the American Heart Association’s Twin Cities office. “We are always looking for new ways to educate the public about this movement and the risks women face with heart disease. We’re very excited to see how John illustrates our red dress icon and brings to life the passion it symbolizes.”
