Seuss on the Loose at the Minnesota Zoo

The MN Zoo unveils first-ever large-scale bronze sculptures of Seuss characters

There have been musicals, movies, and one very questionable decision to put Mike Meyers in a creepy cat costume and a giant, candy-striped hat. But when it comes to honoring Dr. Seuss, no one has ever really gone the public statue route. So it is somewhat momentous that the Minnesota Zoo has unveiled its “Seuss on the Loose” display: a series of life-size bronze sculptures made by Mr. Theodor Seuss Geisel himself depicting the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, Sam I Am (From Green Eggs and Ham), Yertle the Turtle, and—our favorite—the great martyr of environmentalism, the Lorax. The statues went up last weekend and will remain standing until July 4. Seuss-related kids’ activities stretch throughout the summer, including zoo-wide scavenger hunts and Seuss story sessions.
