We had a “bonus” summer weekend, and now it finally feels like fall. I think it’s safe to say that we can officially switch from “summer” mode to “autumn mode.” That not only means cooler weather and shorter daylight hours, but haunted house outings and hayrides, apple orchard excursions, trips to area pumpkin patches, and—if you plan ahead—an afternoon at Sever’s Corn Maze in Shakopee. You don’t have to be a kid or have kids to enjoy Sever’s. Go with your grown family, head there with friends, bring out-of-town visitors or exchange students, even a date.
Expect to spend a few hours here, exploring the corn maze, straw bale maze, massive corn pit, potato sack slide, camel rides, pig races, exotic animal petting zoo, magic show, and canary tent. Eat mini donuts, cheese curds, or corn dogs. Warm up with hot cocoa. Select the perfect pumpkin for your Jack-o-lantern this Halloween. (You can even launch a pumpkin, if you’d rather smash them than carve them later.)
*TIPS
• It can get crowded on weekends. Plan accordingly.
• Wear old shoes. They will get dusty.
• Look for coupons on their website.
• Make sure you have a map to navigate the maze. (Yes, you will need it! Corn can grow pretty tall.)
