Something New: The Wedding Get Together from The Independent Wedding Association

Anyone who’s ever planned a wedding knows (and those who haven’t can imagine) the stress of organizing such an important celebration.

For some, a traditional wedding fair is a great place to get ideas, but hundreds of client-hungry vendors can easily become overwhelming for newly engaged couples.

The Independent Wedding Association is a collection of local wedding professionals who hope to alleviate this pressure with The Wedding Get Together, a casual, conversation-focused wedding conference.  With 20 hand-selected vendors, the conference focuses on quality interactions rather than quantity of choices.  The event includes elements of a traditional wedding show, but adds its own intimate twist.

In planning a wedding, there are obvious things to consider—colors, guest list, location, and, of course, the perfect spouse—but some unsuspecting details require a little bit more deliberation.  What will the timeline of the day look like? Will a bouquet of peonies wilt on a summer afternoon? Which bakery whips up the best buttercream?

At the Wedding Get Together, things work differently.  Guests can settle into a conversation nook and really get to know vendors, or they can have all their questions answered in the low-pressure (and somewhat silly) Vendor Speed Dating session.

“There are a lot of places to look for inspiration,” says Becca Dilley, local wedding photographer and founder of the Independent Wedding Association.  Couples could plan their entire day with a quick search on Pinterest, but consulting with a real wedding professional has its perks.

“All of our vendors are excited to share their expertise.  We will have a lot of honest answers,” Dilley says.  She encourages couples to come prepared with all questions, big and small.

Along with an Open House, the event offers a series of four workshops, including lessons on putting together a wedding day timeline, information about different photography approaches, and advice about alcohol menus and budgets with the Minneapolis Club.

Grab your fiancé and get ready to say “I do” to your perfect wedding.
