Stacey Johnson Jewelry Design

Stacey Johnson is a girl after every girl’s heart. “It’s got to sparkle or I’m not happy,” the spunky jewelry designer says of her creations. Johnson weaves together faceted gemstones, precious stones, and mixed metals to great, gleaming effect. Her pieces are simple yet sophisticated, rustic yet refined—a nod to how she stumbled into jewelry-making after stepping into a bead shop in New Zealand. Six years and countless craft fairs later, Johnson has opened her namesake shop, tucked behind Patina at the corner of 50th and Bryant in south Minneapolis. The delicate jewelry really shines here, juxtaposed against exposed brick walls and concrete floors. Johnson is a master at display, deftly filling the tiny space with her treasures, plus a handful of handbags, belts, scarves, and, yes, bling, by a few of her favorite artisan friends. With her workshop on-site, Johnson is constantly adding to her collection. Pop in on Thursdays to get first dibs on her latest creations.

THE SCOOP

Sugar Sugar

At Sugar Sugar, a gumdrop-sized new candy shop in Minneapolis, proprietress Joni Wheeler has a soft spot for beautiful packaging. She’s filled her sweet space with specialty confections like handmade ribbon candy, gold-dusted Jordan almonds, and designer chocolate bars. For purists, there are plenty of jellies, sours, and a surprising assortment of black licorice. 3803 Grand Ave. S., Mpls., 612-823-0261
