Breakfast at the Buttered Tin Bakery is giving sleepy Lowertown a reason to wake up. The Huevos Rancheros Benedict combines two brunch classics, with a crumbly cornbread round subbing in for the usual English muffin and fresh, zesty salsa in lieu of hollandaise. The biscuits and sausage gravy is also delicious, though the dish needs a higher liquid-to-biscuit ratio. Don’t miss the Tin’s handmade versions of Hostess and Little Debbie snack cakes. The Lowertown Twinkie elevates the childhood favorite by way of a moist sponge cake and cream filling that isn’t tooth-achingly sweet, while a lightly spiced oatmeal-raisin whoopie pie is leaps and bounds better than anything packaged in a plastic wrapper.
