Sad news for the design community this week with the passing Saturday, May 21, of Tom Gunkelman, principal of Gunkelmans Interior Design and a truly wonderful gentleman. He was the first interior designer I interviewed for Midwest Home magazine, and was endlessly kind and informative. The insights he shared with me—and so many others—were surpassed only by his graciousness and good humor. The Star Tribune dubbed him the “Dean of Design” on the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2009, but he’d earned that title decades ago. We’ll miss him.
