Truly Minnesotan

Of the 23 homes on this year’s AIA Minnesota Homes by Architects Tour, more than half are situated near water. Here is a bit about four new lakeside homes you can explore on the tour.

The owners of Home #1 (at right) called on Petterssen/Keller Architecture after a fire destroyed their home on Enchanted Island in Lake Minnetonka. The modern family home provides views of the lakes and surrounding woods in every direction, including a dramatic framed lake view under the second level “bridge.”

Also on Lake Minnetonka, Kurt Baum & Associates gave Home #3 a relaxed and elegant design that blends in beautifully with the neighboring classic lake homes. The homeowners were delighted with a neutral palette and natural materials that do not overpower the scenic views.

“A purist and sculptural angled white form floats over glass on Medicine Lake.” That’s how Charles R. Stinson Architecture + Design describes their project, Home #7. This light-filled and sustainable home features clean, minimal lines and functional open living spaces that take full advantage of its lake views.

The owners of Home #8 contacted Bruce Knutson Architects when they were ready to move back to Minnesota to retire. To create a home for their anticipated lifestyle, the lower level features a guest bedroom, bath, and entertainment room with direct access to Medicine Lake. The upper levels feature cantilevered decks for taking in the views.
