Go behind usually locked doors of the American Swedish Institute’s (ASI) 1908 Turnblad Mansion before it closes for renovation (May through October 2011). Home to the Swedish Institute since 1929, this historic home on Park Avenue will allow visitors to view one-time servants’ quarters, rarely seen guest rooms, and one of the few remaining original bathrooms. Tour guides will explain how Turnblad’s spaces will change with the upcoming renovation. Tour guests will also get a peek at items that are seldom exhibited, including textiles and historic objects.
ASI is planning three special tours: Saturday, April 9, 9 to 11 a.m.; Monday, April 1, 1 to 3 p.m.; and Tuesday, April 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Each tour includes coffee and dessert and will be led by ASI Curator Curt Pederson and Collections Registrar Frances Lloyd-Baynes.
Cost per tour is $28 ($22 ASI members). Space is limited; please call 612-871-4907.
