At the end of a long, cold winter, summer is always welcome—and this summer is going to be especially happy for my family, because my sister Kelly is getting married! She and her fiancée are two peas in a pod, and he is totally cool with our family’s wacky sense of humor.
My kids and I often refer to Aunty Kel as Sparkles, as she loves all things sparkly and is especially fond of makeup and hair products—and, as it is for most brides, her hair and makeup are going to be very important to her on the big day. As we are fast approaching the wedding season, here are three warm-weather photo tips to put the focus on the joy and fun of the moment, rather than on a shiny forehead.
1. Start with products that don’t have shine in them. Unlike during the dry, cold winters, the moisture from your skin in the summertime will be sufficient to produce a dewy glow. Limit the highlighting products to a dab in the corners of your eyes. Try Ilia Beauty Illuminizer for a pretty, stay-put brightener.

2. Use a light-setting powder, such as Juice Beauty Refining Finishing Powder, only on the nose, chin, and forehead. By targeting these areas in the warm months, you’ll maintain a fresh, natural look while combating areas that tend to look greasy in photos because of the heat.

3. Go for a more natural eye-makeup look. Heat and dark eye makeup do not mix well. By skipping the smoky eye, you can avoid a smeary mess. Use a skin-toned shadow, followed by a waterproof mascara, and eyeliner if you prefer. My absolute favorite mascara is Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes.
Wishing you fun in the beautiful weather to come, feeling confident and camera-ready all season long!
