A Literary Feast

This week marks the annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference in Minneapolis, and Rachel and John have a full list of ideas for foodie road trips with a literary spin.

Head to North Dakota to check out where Louise Erdrich grew up, just south of Fargo in Wahpeton, North Dakota—several of her books are set in the area, and in Fargo, check out the historic Hotel Donaldson, flourishing downtown, and German bar Würst Bier Hall for beer and sausages.

In southwest Minnesota, pay tribute to Laura Ingalls Wilder to visit the Walnut Grove museum, see a sod house, and lunch at Nellie’s Café.

And in town, pop by W.A. Frost to see  F. Scott Fitzgerald’s stomping grounds—rumor has it, the famed author spent days at the pharmacy counter sipping soda.  See if you can spot him in one of the historic photographs housed in the restaurant’s basement.
