Presenting eight full-length shows a season, Lyric Arts’ upcoming Season 22–23 features something for everyone with a delightful mix of hilarious comedies, intriguing dramas, and rocking musicals.
The 227 seats in Lyric Arts’ Main Street Stage provide an intimate atmosphere where stories can come alive. With popcorn for sale (a nod to their history), comfortable seats, and great views from anywhere in the theater, Lyric Arts prides itself on being a welcoming space for both audiences and artists.
Opening the season is LUMBERJACKS IN LOVE from September 9–25, a musical romp through the North Woods. In 1912, five lumberjacks live in a state of manly bliss. However, when one of them accidentally orders a mail-order bride, their shanty lives are turned upside down. This tale of mistaken identities and remaining true to yourself is the perfect show for fall in Minnesota!
From October 14–30, Lyric Arts will partner with Teatro del Pueblo to produce REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES. Set in a tiny sewing factory in LA, this play tells the funny story of five Mexican-American women racing to meet a nearly impossible deadline. A microcosm of the Latina immigrant experience, this story celebrates the incredible bond of sisterhood.
Lyric Arts’ holiday show MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY is the cleverly imagined sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The arrival of an unexpected guest helps Mary Bennet discover her independence…and maybe even true love. This endearing rom-com plays November 18–December 18 and will delight Jane Austen aficionados and newcomers alike.
2023 opens with THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. Playing January 13–February 5, this thriller follows Rachel Watson, a broken woman who suddenly finds herself entangled in the disappearance of a fellow Londoner. Soon she is engulfed in a mystery that will force her to face revelations she never could have anticipated.
Then, take a trip back to the 1980s with THE WEDDING SINGER, playing from February 24–March 26. This musical follows Robby Hart, New Jersey’s No. 1 wedding singer who must come to terms with his own heartbreak to pull off the performance of the decade…or lose his dream girl forever.
THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY performs April 14–May 7. This side-splitting comedy follows four women drawn together by fate—and an impromptu happy hour—who decide it’s time to reclaim their enthusiasm for life.
June 2–25 features OUR TOWN, the Pulitzer-winning play. Morning breaks on another day in Grover’s Corners. As life unfolds and a community comes together, one question remains: “Do any human beings ever realize life as they live it?”
And finally, THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL plays July 14–August 13! With a score written by industry giants like Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, and David Bowie, this musical extravaganza will be a heart-felt, high-energy night at the theater!
In addition to theater, Lyric Arts produces an eight-show concert series: Live@Lyric Arts. Lyric Arts’ Education Department also hosts year-round workshops and camps to grow the next generation of artists.
