For avid fans or first-timers, Minnesota Opera provides an unrivaled evening filled with sensational music, theater, and storytelling. Unbridled comedy meets passionate romance and drama for an experience theater-goers won’t soon forget.
For the first time ever, Minnesota Opera presents comic romance The Anonymous Lover. Written in 1780 by the groundbreaking Black composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, this opera about earnest vulnerability and steadfast devotion tells the story of a beautiful young widow who is doubtful about ever finding love again — sung in French with English dialogue and English captions projected above the stage. This February 5 through 13.
Operatic favorite Carmen will also be coming to the stage in spring. In this classic, a gorgeous woman leading a bold and independent life attracts the attention of a corporal military officer, and a story of passion and desire soon transforms into a fight for freedom. Denyce Graves makes her directorial debut leading a new production of Bizet’s tantalizing tale about romance, obsession, and vengeance.
This season also includes the one-day-only presentation of Voices United, a dynamic concert experience of opera hits and modern masterpieces starring the MN Opera Chorus and the MN Opera Orchestra.
MN Opera requires all audience members to present either proof of their COVID-19 vaccination and booster shot, or a negative test result taken within 72 hours before a performance. All guests and staff are required to wear non-cloth masks such as N95, KN95, KF94, or surgical masks inside the venue, except while actively eating or drinking in the lobbies.
