Beauty clunkers. We’ve all got them, tucked way back in the closet, collecting dust. Maybe you think that sunscreen from 2002 will still be effective when you finally take a tropical vaca in 2012 (it won’t). Maybe you are sucker for the BOGOs at Bath & Body Works (how much melon body splash does one need exactly?). Or maybe, like me, you hang on to make-up shades that are all wrong for your skin tone “just in case” they look good some day (this logic is rather flawed, no?).
If any of these scenarios sound familiar, grab a box or bag and go to the closet/cabinet/drawer where you keep your clunkers. Now place everything you haven’t used in the last year into the bag. Do it. You don’t need that stuff any more. And I promise—you won’t miss it (especially once you realize that there is now room in your linen closet for . . . linen).
When you’ve filled up your bag, bring it directly to StormSister Spatique in St. Paul. Proprietress and product guru Becky Sturm will tell you what to keep, what to toss (she’ll even recycle the packaging for you), and what to add to your arsenal. As if her expertise and hand-holding weren’t gift enough, Storm will kick in samples and 50 percent off a product you can actually use. Now say thank you.
