Business in Bloom

Everything is coming up roses in south Minneapolis

I’m sure you never wait until the very last minute to buy a gift. But should this fate ever befall you, I have your ace in the hole: Spruce Flowers & Home.

It’s postage-stamp tiny, but artfully curated, with gifts that are just the thing: smartly arranged flowers, beautiful vases, blooming plants from local growers, gorgeous coffee-table tomes, and letterpress cards. Exclusive to the shop are local designer Joynöelle’s pillows, fashioned from vintage kimonos and obis. See what I mean?

Owner Amy Backman, formerly of Bachman’s, Room & Board, and Thymes, marries her buyer’s eye with a neighborly mien. She’ll invite you to walk through the flower cooler, or to attend one of her arranging classes (there’s wine!) so you can learn to incorporate fresh blooms into your décor like Martha Stewart says you should. Or pull up a stool to the teeny flower bar and chat. We’ve never had a florist quite like this.
