Next Tuesday, Minneapolis will welcome former Minnesotan and current literary luminary Cheryl Strayed, author of #1 New York Times-bestselling Wild, as she provides the keynote speech for a Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) fundraising event at Solar Arts by Chowgirls in Northeast Minneapolis.
The event, BROACH the Subject: an Evening with Cheryl Strayed will also feature a panel discussion by local musician and writer Dessa, MHIF CEO Kris Fortman, PhD, and Julie Kearns, founder of the vintage shop Junket: Tossed & Found. Their discussion will touch on what it takes for women to become business leaders, what sacrifices and skills are needed to maintain spiritual, physical, and mental wellness, and unique issues facing women and their health.
Tickets are still available for the event, which will raise funds for two MHIF initiatives–BROACH (Broadening the Role of OB-GYNs in Assessing Cardiovascular Health), which works to educate OB-GYNs about the need to begin conversations with young women around their heart health, and a “Women’s 55-and-under Registry” to track women in Minnesota who develop heart disease before the age of 55.
The event is being hosted at Solar Arts by Chowgirls and will feature hors d’oeuvres from Chowgirls Killer Catering, a reception with music by popular local DJ Shannon Blowtorch, an all-female maker marketplace, and a book signing with Strayed.
