Dress to Impress

I’m sure many of you tuned in for the fashion spectacle that is the Emmys. We saw stars shine in trends such as chartreuse, structured gowns, brocade patterning, and intricately draped fabrics. And as always there were some clear winners, losers, and looks that leave the fashion police in all of us divided. Here are my picks for Best Dressed, plus one (controversial) honorable mention:

Nicole Kidman in Antonio Berardi
Nicole rarely gets it wrong, but this Antonio Berardi dress from his spring/summer 2013 collection was a total moment for her. Rumor is the sleek column dress came straight off the runway in London and onto Nicole for the event. She stood out amongst a sea of overly bedazzled numbers and rocked that dress like the true fembot-goddess she is.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier
Ginnifer totally wowed in vintage-inspired Monique Lhuillier. She never fails to pull off the retro-pixie look without looking too cheeky. She’s a master of getting that balance just right.

Emily VanCamp in J Mendel
This look oozes Hollywood glamour in the subtlest way. J Mendel knows how to create feminine, dramatic gowns that compliment the woman wearing it. And Emily, thank you for not bashing us over the head with the formulaic mermaid silhouette + bold lip + silky waves. Well done.

Honorable Mention:

Julianne Moore in Christian Dior Haute Couture
You either loved or hated Julianne’s look last night and I’m way into it! A popular color this year, Julianne gets my vote for Best Dressed in Chartreuse simply because of the strong silhouette. The long-sleeved Dior frock was much riskier than the strapless dresses worn (exceptionally well) by Claire Danes (Lanvin) and Julie Bowen (Monique Lhuillier). The way the color compliments her amazing red locks was perfection. Go Julianne!
