Going Glam

Amping up this mom’s curvaceous figure makes for a red-carpet ready look

Who: Angel Diehl, 50.

The Story: Angel’s daughter, Bethany, nominated her mom for much-needed pampering. “My mom looks great—petite and curvy,” Bethany says. “But even though I have been giving her tips, she resorts to boxy soccer-mom shirts. She has a great frame and just needs help showing it off.”

The Style Inspiration: Grant thought Angel had a body like Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren—high drama with lots of sophistication.

Our Stylist’s Take: “Angel has a movie-star body. We wanted to embrace her and her figure. We call this one ‘vintage starlet meets modern-day fashion.’”

Word to the Wise: The ruching and mermaid cut on this formal dress flattered Angel’s figure. It also eliminated some of the fit issues she was having—tiny waist with a curve to the hip—since the cut is made to cling to curvier silhouettes and not fit the waist and hips separately.

Last Look: Formal gowns don’t have to look like pageant attire. A couple of pieces of statement jewelry nullify any possible pretense of prom-going.
