Going to the Dogs

Two things I’ve always loved about Becky Sturm, proprietress of Stormsister Spatique, are her straight talk and her wicked sense of humor. I always have a good belly laugh when I get ten minutes to chat with her. So when she emailed me and said, “I have something new I have to drop off to you,” I was prepared for something clever and fun.

Enter doggystyle—or shampooch; she couldn’t decide on a name—a luxury grooming bar for (wo)man’s best friend. She designed it with her favorite furfriend, a Shar Pei named Boone, in mind. But she also couldn’t ignore the growing questions from her devoted soap-stars: Can I use my shhh. bar on my dog?

When I pulled the bar out of the bag, I had a good, long giggle. It fits in perfectly with her cheeky 3-Way Beauty brand—and I’ve been wondering when there might be new additions to the line. Like the shhh. bar, doggystyle is made in Minnesota, comes in compostable, recyclable packaging. And it’s free of all the toxics or suspected naughties: parabens, pthalates, petrolatum, mineral oils, gluten, and synthetic dyes, coloring, or fragrance.

What it is full of is all the good stuff: lots of rich oils, cocoa butter, and a delicious scent that is made of a blend of essential oils. Which means when your pet decides to groom himself, he won’t be licking off anything that will make him sick. And his coat will look so smooth and shiny! I can’t wait to give my two little monsters a dip with it, although I’m sure they will resist.

You can find her and the bar at the Grandstand at the Fair this week, as well as in her online shop.
