The typical aesthetic of nurseries and young children’s bedrooms is one that rarely lasts beyond the toddler years. But the new Bambino at 50th & France specializes in pieces that can either grow up along with the kiddos or move seamlessly to other rooms (think: sleek throw pillows printed with owls and soft knit blankets that look at home in a rocking chair or draped over the back of a living room sofa).
“It’s modern and chic, but still definitely for kids,” says shop owner and interior designer Trina Eibon, who had trouble finding locally sourced décor when it came time to create nurseries for her little bambina and bambino (Sophia, 5, and Louie, 17 months). “Finding inspiration to decorate a nursery or child’s room is easy,” she explains. “It’s putting the right pieces together and finding them locally that’s hard, so I want to have a really curated collection of things in the shop.”
Although the store is small at just under 900 square feet, Eibon’s design sensibilities are evident in how she’s maximized it: Everything is for sale, from the Bold & Noble prints adorning the walls to the Anne-Claire Petit footstools on the floor (which, conveniently, can double as extra seating). While the store won’t carry much furniture due to space constraints, ever-rotating vignettes depicting nurseries and playrooms will charm customers enough to take advantage of the special-order and interior-design services.
